Your CRA Dollars at Work
Red Rooster Overtown will hold a week-long job fair beginning Sunday, December 15, 2019 to fill open positions at their new Overtown location. The first day of the job fair will feature a block party hosted by internationally acclaimed celebrity Chef Marcus Samuelsson from 11am-5pm at Red Rooster Overtown located at 920 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33136. Samuelsson owns several successful restaurants, including Red Rooster in New York City. He has also appeared on several television shows, including the Today Show, Iron Chef, Top Chef Masters and Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain.
On Monday, December 16th through Friday, December 20th, the job fairs will take place at Space Called Tribe Co-Work and Urban Innovation Lab for culinary and general positions from 10am-6pm. Job seekers will have the opportunity to meet with Red Rooster Overtown operator Grove Bay Hospitality for open positions available ahead of Red Rooster’s Jan 2020 opening date. Resumes can be sent to info@grovebaygroup.com. Applicants who need assistance or access to computers will be able to obtain services each day of the job fair from 10am to 6pm at Space Called Tribe.
Grove Bay Hospitality Group’s qualified employee packages of benefits include competitive wages, an individualized training and development program, a tuition reimbursement program, and medical, vision, and dental insurance.
Located in the Folklife Village/ Overtown entertainment district, the new Red Rooster location is a historic landmark once owned and operated by famed music promoter Clyde Killen’s. During the 1950’s and 60’s, Mr. Killen’s brought legendary entertainers such as Count Basie, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, Patti Labelle, and Ella Fitzgerald into Overtown. In an effort to highlight and preserve the historical significance of the former pool hall, the CRA purchased the building and invested $850,000 into renovations.
The new restaurant is poised to become an anchor for Overtown’s Culture and Entertainment District, and is within walking distance to other historic landmarks such as the Historic Lyric Theater Cultural Arts Complex, the former Lawson E. Thomas Building and the Overtown Performing Arts Center (Former Ebenezer Church). The CRA Board authorized the sale of the property to Marcus Samuelson Development Group, LLC (MSDG) for $1,500,000 and a grant in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000 to assist with the build out of the restaurant.
