THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN / PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS APPROVE $10 MILLION TO RENOVATE TOWN PARK PLAZA SOUTH

(Miami, FL) — On Monday, June 29, 2015 the Southeast Overtown / Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (“SEOPW”) (“CRA”) Board of Commissioners of the City of Miami approved a $10 million grant for a complete renovation and rehabilitation of Town Park Plaza South (“Town
Park South”). The renovation and rehabilitation project will include interior and exterior upgrades to all 116 units at the HUD co-operative housing complex.

“This $10 million renovation is another example of how we are committed to fulfilling past promises and exceeding the current expectations of the residents in the Overtown community,” said SEOPW CRA Chairman Commissioner Keon Hardemon.

Town Park South, located in Overtown at 1798 NW 5th Ave, was constructed in 1971. Currently, the
townhouse style buildings are in desperate need of repairs. The buildings are also in need of a 40year re-certification. The renovation and rehabilitation project will be completed by H.A. Contracting Corp, a local contractor with many years of construction experience. The renovations will include the installation of new windows, doors, floors, bathrooms, kitchens, closets, central air systems and appliances among other improvements to each unit. Exterior improvements will include: the replacement of the roofs, stucco, painting, landscaping and sod, sidewalks, metal picket fencing with security features and utility upgrades to the water and sewer lines. The project is expected to begin by the end of 2015.
The Town Park South renovation and rehabilitation project aligns with the CRA’s goals to preserve affordability and enhance the quality of life of residents within the redevelopment area. The project is the second major housing renovation and rehabilitation project in Overtown that is being financed by the CRA. The CRA also provided $15 million for the renovation and rehabilitation of Town Park Plaza North, which is currently underway. Both projects are a significant investment for the agency and will provide upgrades to a total of 281 existing residential units. The agency also has plans to renovate Town Park Village No. 1, which consist of 151 HUD Cooperative apartments.

During the meeting, the SEOPW CRA Board of Commissioners also approved Harold A. Johnson Consulting Group, Inc. to perform contract compliance and job monitoring services at the Miami
World center mixed-use development project. The Board of Commissioners also approved the purchase of the former law office of the Honorable Judge Lawson Edward Thomas, located at 1021
NW 2nd Ave. For more information on Town Park Plaza South contact the CRA at (305)679-6800.
