THE MIAMI WORLD CENTER PROJECT BRINGS NEW EDUCATIONAL AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO OVERTOWN RESIDENTS

MIAMI, FL – November 28, 2016 –  Overtown residents were offered a new educational and employment opportunity in the construction trade industry through the Training for Manufactured Construction (TRAMCON) Program.  The program was brought to the community by the Southeast Overtown / Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) in partnership with Coastal-Tishman, The Development Firm, and the Miami Worldcenter.

Classes began on July 25th, 2016 with the inaugural class of 14 students that graduated on October 17th 2016.  Graduating students received four different certifications: (1) 72-hour core construction class, (2) OSHA 10 Card, (3) OSHA 30 Card, and (4) Concrete Construction and Finishing certificate.  This unique opportunity gave participants the chance to receive several certifications and a job offer from the Miami Worldcenter upon completion.

“The goal of the Overtown CRA is to incentivize private investment in the Overtown and Park West neighborhoods in an effort to eliminate slum and blight while improving the quality of life for our residents.  This partnership will accomplish both goals.  Residents have been guaranteed not only the necessary training to improve their skills but, most importantly jobs.  We’re grateful for the partnership.” Stated Clarence E. Woods, CRA Executive Director.

The Miami Worldcenter is a 27-acre, mixed-use project that recently broke ground and held a job resources expo on October 27, 2016. Skilled and unskilled workers were invited to attend and learn more about the opportunities available in the construction trade industry. The Miami Worldcenter will be under construction over the next several years and is expected to employ thousands of workers throughout the life of the project, transforming the landscape and lives of resident in the downtown area.
